Mitsuru is also a talented fencer/swordfighter, and her melee weapon of choice is a rapier. Additionally, she's quite adept at technology.
_PERSONALITY: Because the bulk of Mitsuru's personality is showcased during Persona 3 (rather than P4A, which is primarily a fighting game), this section will primarily focus on traits exhibited throughout p3.
Mitsuru plays the big sister role to SEES remarkably well. From the very beginning of Persona 3, she demonstrates remarkable maturity, patience, and intelligence. Before the protagonist joined SEES, Mitsuru took on the role herself, and it is only after she offers it to the protagonist that she takes a more supportive role. She serves as a guiding force towards the younger students, and takes a vested interest in their academic lives. It's no coincidence that in order to unlock her social link, the protagonist must have achieved "genius" level academics. Despite her polite demeanor, she doesn't tend to get close to people very easily and tends to keep them at arms' length, giving the impression that she's cold and snobby. This, coupled with her lack of tolerance for any behavior she seems disrespectful or inappropriate, is what earned her the title of "The Imperious Queen of Executions" in P4A's fighting tournament.
Aside from her SEES duties, her affinity for leadership shows in the way she applies herself both to school and the Kirijo Group. She's at the top of her class and the Student Council president. She's much more concerned with her studies, her responsibilities on the student council, and her SEES duties than she is in having a social life. Even the teachers admire her, and in one instance, the principal shamelessly copies the speech she gives to the student body. To most of her classmates at Gekkoukan High, she's "on a whole different level". She is the only daughter of Takeharu Kirijo, and after his death, inherited Kirijo Group, one of the largest and wealthiest companies in Japan (in Persona world, at least). She dedicates herself to her job-- one might even call her a workaholic. It isn't merely personal ambition that drives her to work as hard as she does-- by putting forth her efforts into anti-Shadow weapons, she's working to undo the wrongs done by her grandfather, Kotetsu Kirijo. He sought to use the shadows to bring about the end of the world, although his experiment ultimately failed. It resulted in a laboratory explosion that killed hundreds of people, including Yukari Takeba's father. His actions are Mitsuru's burden to carry, and she is determined to make things right.
Despite her wealthy background and social standing, she's actually far from a snob. She doesn't go out of her way to flaunt her social status. Any display of wealth or social standing is purely accidental, because she's simply never known any other way of life. She's courteous to her classmates, and especially generous when it comes to the other members of SEES. When special events roll around, Mitsuru's the one spending money so the girls have nice yukatas to wear, and she rewards the team with expensive sushi after they've defeated the twelve guardians of Tartarus in Persona 3. She's also very involved in making sure the underclassmen stay on top of their studies, and rewards the protagonist with special gifts for high exam grades.
With that said, Mitsuru is friendly enough, but she's also emotionally distant. She speaks formally, addressing everyone except Akihiko (and the protagonist once her social link is maxed) by their last name. Her language is eloquent and precise, and free of any sort of profanities. Even when she's casually hanging out with friends, she's prone to sounding businesslike, which can sometimes make her the target of harmless teasing. However, as demonstrated in Persona 3, she can loosen up somewhat, and takes on a more casual, personal tone when discussing topics like family, her future, and friendship. She confides in the p3 protagonist that she feels suffocated by the world she's been brought up in, and sometimes wants nothing more than to escape and live free of responsibilities. This is part of the reason why she likes to ride her motorcycle -- it allows her to escape and run away for a little while. Mitsuru makes a resolution not to run away anymore at the end of her social link and gives the protagonist the key to her motorcycle.
Mitsuru's major moment of character growth occurs soon after the death of her father. Because she used her Persona to protect her father, she feels as if she's lost her reason to fight. She's also hit very hard by Ikutsuki's betrayal. Because of him, SEES was tricked into unifying the twelve guardians. She falls into a deep depression, shutting herself away from the rest of the world and declaring her days of fighting as over. It's with Yukari's help that Mitsuru realizes that she has to keep fighting-- she can't give up. She can still try and achieve her father's goals. This resolution helps her decide to keep fighting with her teammates, a growth in emotional maturity that sparks the evolution of her Persona. This is also a major turning point in she and Yukari's friendship, and the two become best friends. This is especially important considering it's Mitsuru's grandfather's fault that Yukari's father was killed. Yukari is able to forgive and see past her family's wrongdoings, and the two have remained good friends well into college.
Her silly moments are subtle -- a tiny smile at a joke here, a clever retort there. One of Mitsuru's biggest quirks is her tendency to slip in little French phrases in conversation. She's so good at playing the role of a strong woman that it's surprising when her weaknesses are brought to the surface. She's actually pretty scared of horror movies, for example, and asks if she can hold the protagonist's hand while they watch it. Even though she's seemingly always dressed impeccably, she confesses that she's actually kind of hopeless when it comes to fashion and relies on her stylist.
Due to her incredibly sheltered life, she's clueless about things that are normal to any other young person, such as how to eat fast food. She's so worried about using "proper etiquette" at a fast food joint that she waits until she can go with the protagonist, who teaches her. Even then, she's prone to overanalyzing things, like wondering how a business can make profits when their product is so cheap! Another side effect of her sheltered life is that she doesn't always catch social cues. She won't always understand jokes or realize when someone is flirting.
In the two years that transpire after the defeat of Nyx, the protagonist's passing, and Labrys' kidnapping, we see Mitsuru has grown into a competent, confident young CEO. She keeps close contact with Aigis and Akihiko, and does not hesitate to go back into the thick of battle for the sake of retrieving Labrys.
On multiple occasions, Mitsuru shows that she has a strong sense of justice. She reprimands a teacher for covering up the disappearance of a student in the interest of maintaining his own self-image, decreeing that he would be punished. The main reason she fights is not only to protect her father, but also as a sort of atonement for the terrible things the Kirijo Group did under her grandfather's rule. She's infamous for her "executions", and Akihiko knows firsthand that her wrath is a thing to be feared. This remains true well into the fighting tournament she must enter in P4A, with battle cries that definitely scream "get out of my way".
No matter what the circumstances, I cannot afford to lose. If you'll still come at me knowing this, then I'll show no mercy!
_ITEMS: Her ridiculous catsuit + fur coat ensemble, her rapier, and her evoker (shaped like a gun, not actually a gun).
